The 2013 Eastern Oklahoma Veteran and Military Hiring Fair and Business Opportunity Summit begins at 9 a.m. for veterans and 10 a.m. for the general public Feb. 7 at the Muskogee Civic Center. There is no admission cost for the job fair, which is intended to assist veterans and military personnel in obtaining gainful employment.
Local, state and federal agencies will collaborate for the event.
Workshop sessions will include: Business Start Up, Business Plan Projections and Financing, as well as presentations on contracting with the government, business certification, how to get a federal job, how to develop a resume and how to file a federal claim for benefits.
The Department of Labor reports more than 1.1. million unemployed veterans, a quarter million of whom are Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, with unemployment rates of 30.2 percent for ages 24 and under and 17.9 percent for ages 25 to 34.
