Worker at G-P killed

Accident to be investigated by OSHA

— Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be looking into a fatal accident that happened Wednesday at Georgia-Pacific, one of them said.

Juan Rodriguez, OSHA spokesman, said companies must immediately report any fatalities and any accidents that injure three or more workers.

OSHA was notified of the fatality Wednesday, he said.

The name of the man working for an electrical contractor, Industrial Contractors of Oklahoma, has not yet been released.

ICO’s owner, Mike Huckaby of Tulsa, said: “Out of respect for his family, I’m not going to give out his name. Right now, I’m just focused on the family and working with officials to figure out what happened.”

The worker’s cause of death has also not been officially released.

Rebecca Smith of Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service said the emergency call came at 10:53 a.m. Wednesday.

“We transported a patient with lights and sirens, with life-threatening injuries to Muskogee Regional Medical Center,” she said.

G-P Public Relations Officer Julie Vandewater confirmed that the worker died, but she also declined to give his name.

OSHA records, which are only available back to 1984, indicate Georgia-Pacific has not had any deaths at its Muskogee facility.

Muskogee Phoenix archives show a worker was injured by smoke inhalation in 2009 and another was injured when her hand became caught in a printing machine.
