A head-on collision on U.S. 69 in Pittsburg County left a Eufaula man dead at the scene and a woman injured.
Alfred Cheek, 91, was driving a 1993 Plymouth four-door northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 69 Sunday when it collided with a 2002 Dodge driven by Jimmy Heald, 59, of Indianola, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Cheek died of head and trunk injuries. Heald suffered no injuries, the OHP said.
A passenger in Heald’s vehicle, Velma Heald, 56, was treated and released from McAlester Regional Hospital.
Jimmy Heald was southbound on U.S. 69 when Cheek swerved to the right. Cheek was pinned for approximately 30 minutes. His vehicle was equipped with seat belts that were not in use. Airbags were equipped in both vehicles. They deployed in Cheek’s vehicle, and the passenger side deployed in Heald’s vehicle.
