Woman named to optometry examiners board

— Dr. Kathleen Elliott of Broken Arrow has been appointed to the Oklahoma Board of Examiners in Optometry, according to a media release from Gov. Mary Fallin.

She will serve a five-year term, replacing Dr. Gary Ford.

Elliott is a pediatric optometrist in Tulsa. She is also an adjunct professor at Northeastern State University college of Optometry in Tahlequah.

Elliott is the first female doctor to be appointed to the Oklahoma Board of Examiners in Optometry.

Her father, Dr. George Foster, served on the board for 12 years and was first appointed by former Gov. George Nigh and then reappointed by former Govs. Henry Bellmon and David Walters.

This makes the Elliotts the first father-daughter combination to serve on the board.

Elliott is a member in the American Optometric Association, Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians, and the American Academy of Optometry.

She is also a past president of Northeastern Oklahoma Optometric Society.

She also participates in medical mission trips to India and Mexico.
