Tammy Kay Marshall of Welling pleaded guilty Monday to embezzlement and theft from an Indian Tribal Organization.
Marshall, 48, was indicted by a federal grand jury in November on embezzling more than $1,000 from the Cherokee Nation.
Marshall issued checks to tribal members from the Tribal Emergency Assistance Program. Once the checks were cashed, she asked beneficiaries to return a portion of the money to her as an overpayment, said. U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling.
Marshall then kept the money for her personal use, he said.
