Shawn Reed, 20, of Tulsa, told a sheriff’s investigator he shot himself in the leg between 3 and 4 a.m. Monday.
Investigator Faye Banks said Reed told her he and a friend from Muskogee were driving east and north of Fort Gibson when the shooting occurred. Banks said Reed told her the driver pulled out a gun to show Reed before he grabbed it.
Reed did not go to a hospital until 1 p.m. Reed was expected to be released Monday night, but would have to return for surgery, Banks said.
Investigators do not have the driver’s name, she said.
