Several Muskogee area child care facilities are participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, offered through the State Department of Education.
From July 2008 through June 2009, nearly 700,000 children and adults were served through the program, according to a media release.
“During that time frame, approximately 11.6 million breakfasts, 12.9 million lunches, 15.8 million snacks and 1.4 million suppers were served through this program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and coordinated in Oklahoma by the Oklahoma State Department of Education,” said Sandy Garrett, state superintendent for Public Instruction. “The national economic crisis has resulted in many families having food shortages in the home so, more than ever, we appreciate the critical service our partnering child and adult care institutions provide by serving meals.”
All participants in attendance at CACFP institutions are served meals at no extra charge to their parents, without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
Area facilities participating in the program include:
• MUSKOGEE: Muskogee Day Nursery, Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist, Precious Little Angels Daycare, Green Country Behavioral Services, Jack and Jill Learning Center, Kids Zone Child Development Center, New Beginnings Child Care Center, New Hope Assembly of God, Oak Tree Academy, Muskogee Parenting Program, Wilkerson Child Care, Wilkerson Child Care West, Champion’s Child Care.
• CHECOTAH: Deion’s Tiny Tots/ABC Playhouse, Li’l Rascals Learning Center.
• EUFAULA: Busy Bee Learning Center.
• FORT GIBSON: Wonderland Preschool Aunt Nettie’s Daycare and Preschool.
• GORE: Li’l Pirates Learning Center.
• HASKELL: Bullfrogs and Butterflies Early Learning Center, Haskell Angel Care and Learning Center.
