EUFAULA — A McIntosh County associate district judge refused Monday to accept a plea agreement the former sheriff and undersheriff made with county prosecutors.
Former Sheriff Terry Alan Jones, 36, and former Undersheriff Mykol Travis Brookshire, 38, then conferred with their attorneys before pleading.
Each pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and one count of conspiracy, both admitting they split $5,000 taken from a motorist during a traffic stop.
Each received 10 years on each count. Jones is to spend seven years in prison and three years probation on the embezzlement, with Brookshire to receive six years in prison and four years probation.
Each received seven years in prison and three years probation for the conspiracy.
