Benefit for Tahlequah tot scheduled

TAHLEQUAH — An Indian taco dinner is scheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at at the Community Building to benefit a 2-year old Tahlequah cancer patient.

Proceeds from the event will help defray the medical expenses of Emmett Williams, son of Angela and James Williams. Emmett is undergoing treatment at St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa. He has a rare cancer of the sympathetic nervous system called neuroblastoma.

Modern Woodmen of America Camp 11580 of Muskogee is sponsor of the dinner. The Woodmen’s organization will match up to $2,500 in funds generated by the dinner, said Gary L. Romriell, Modern Woodman of America financial adviser. Meal preparations and volunteers for the event will be coordinated by Joyce Jones.

James Williams is an employee of the Cherokee Nation Jack Brown Center.

Emmett is the grandson of Joyce Jones and Norma Boren of Whitesboro, Texas. Norma and her husband Jim are former Tahlequah educators.

Tickets for the Emmett Williams Benefit Indian taco dinner are $5 each. They are available at the door and from volunteers in the community. In addition to the dinner, a raffle of a flat-screen television will help raise funds.

Contributions to the Emmett Williams Benefit Fund may be mailed or delivered to Tahlequah's Bank of America, 100 S. Muskogee Ave.
