A Mississippi man was injured Thursday when the tractor-trailer rig he was in overturned on Interstate 40, states an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
William Hamilton, 36, of Mantee, Miss., was stable when he was hospitalized at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., but his condition was unavailable Thursday.
According to the OHP, Hamilton was a passenger in a 1999 Peterbilt being driven by Debbe Reid, 49, of Natchez, Miss. Reid was westbound at approximately 2:40 a.m. at mile marker 302 on I-40 in Sequoyah County when the vehicle hydroplaned. The truck ran off the road into the center median for 695 feet. It then re-entered to road in the eastbound lanes and traveled another 200 feet before overturning on the driver’s side. It then slid on another 180 fee on its side before coming to rest, blocking the eastbound lanes.
Reid, who was wearing a seat belt, refused treatment. Hamilton, who was in the sleeping compartment, was not wearing a seat belt, the OHP report states.
