A.M. UPDATE: Stigler man pleads to bank robbery charges

A Stigler man pleaded guilty Thursday to three counts of bank robbery in federal court in Muskogee.

Larry Eugene Walden, 57, was indicted in August following an investigation by the FBI and police departments in Sallisaw, McAlester and Fort Smith, Ark., U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling said.

Walden was alleged to have robbed three banks in Oklahoma: BancFirst in McAlester, Arvest Bank in Poteau and National Bank of Sallisaw.

The approximate total take from all three banks was more than $8,500.

Statutory range of punishment is up to 20 years and/or fines of up to $250,000. Preliminary calculation of the federal sentencing guidelines projects an advisory range of 51 to 71 months imprisonment, Sperling said.

A sentencing date will be set after the U.S. Probation Office completes a pre-sentencing report.
