TAHLEQUAH — The Zoe Institute received a generous donation from Illinois River Balloonfest to help fund the 2010 annual school supply giveaway, said Rhonda Clemons, a spokeswoman for the institute.
The giveaway isn’t sponsored solely by Zoe Institute, but in conjunction with the Cherokee County Christian Ministerial Alliance. This year the giveaway was held Aug. 1 with the following churches contributing school supplies: First Methodist, Park Hill Baptist, Free Will Baptist, Bethesda, St. Brigid Catholic, Tahlequah Bible, Blue Springs, Light of Christ, First Assembly, Calvary Assembly, Evangelical Free, First Baptist and Abundant Life.
Lake Region funded the backpacks. Not only were 410 backpacks filled with school supplies and given to the children, but free haircuts also were available by local beauticians who volunteered their time. Churches also provided live music and entertainment.
