A pregnant Muskogee woman was hit by a motorist traveling north on 32nd Street between McDonald’s and Homeland at mid-afternoon Thursday.
Chemea Crowder, 20, was stable later in the day at Muskogee Regional Medical Center, but her condition was unavailable.
Crowder was hit when she was running across U.S. 69 from near McDonald’s. The blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo that hit her was driven by Melton Brooks of Muskogee, said Muskogee Police Officer John Toles.
Brooks was traveling about 25 mph at the time, Toles said, which was within the speed limit.
Brooks declined comment, saying he did all his talking to the police.
Crowder was taken by Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service to Muskogee Regional Medical Center, where she was undergoing testing late Thursday afternoon, said hospital spokeswoman Laurie Hoog.
Toles said Brooks was northbound on the inside lane when the accident occurred.
The only citation issued was to Brooks for no insurance, Toles said.
