AARP Taxaide volunteers will offer free 2012 tax return preparation for senior and low-income taxpayers. This service includes free preparation and free electronic filing for federal and state returns.
Local coordinator Larry Hatley said volunteers will be available at the Muskogee Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday through April 9 or until a maximum of 50 taxpayers is reached. Taxpayers will be taken first-come, first-served, and some waiting time may be necessary.
The IRS requires all taxpayers to bring a picture ID, copy of their last year’s return or original Social Security cards for everyone who is to be included on the return along with all income documents. Failure to present the required items will result in the taxpayer not being served until missing items are available.
This service is staffed by IRS-trained and certified local volunteers. AARP Taxaide is a program of the AARP Foundation offered with the IRS.
