OSU Institute of Technology and Muscogee (Creek) Nation exchange land

— OKMULGEE — The OSU/A&M Board of Regents approved the exchange of two parcels of land between Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, according to a media release.

The exchange took place at the Board’s meeting Tuesday, which was held on the OSUIT campus in Okmulgee. The exchange of the two roughly 10-acre plots will benefit each educational institution by allowing for expansion of facilities.

The plot of land that OSUIT received is adjacent to its campus on the north side across Kennedy Street. The land that the College of the Muscogee Nation received is directly behind its college, facing the Loop 56 highway.

OSUIT President Dr. Bill R. Path said the land exchange is the result of discussions with College of the Muscogee Nation President Robert Bible that began a little over a year ago.

“We wanted to be a good partner with the College of the Muscogee Nation, and the land adjacent to their institution is more valuable to them, so we are happy to make the exchange,” Path said. “This will allow the College of the Muscogee Nation to be one step closer to their vision for their campus.”

Bible said the land exchange allowed the college to expand from 15 to 25 acres together in one plot.

“This is a significant milestone for the College of the Muscogee Nation, as we are now able to begin construction on a facility directly behind the existing college that will house a library, science classroom laboratories and fitness facility,” Bible said.
