Local road project receives award

— A recent Oklahoma Department of Transportation project in Muskogee earned a national award, a media release states.

The award was an Excellence in Concrete Pavement Awards presented to ODOT by the American Concrete Pavement Association.

The award was presented at the ACPA’s 23nd annual “Excellence in Concrete Pavement” awards. The national pavement awards, which recognize companies and agencies for safe, efficient and durable concrete pavements, were presented at the recent closing banquet ceremony as part of ACPA’s 49th annual meeting.

ODOT received the silver award in the divided highways (rural) category for the reconstruction of Interstate 40 at Webbers Falls. The $34 million project involved reconstructing more than six miles of I-40 between Warner and the Arkansas River including improving intersections with two busy highways and the Muskogee Turnpike as well as reconstructing one bridge.

Through careful planning and execution, the contractor maintained access on 12 different ramps throughout the project, which included environmentally friendly and cost saving plans to recycle and reuse parts of the old roadway. The project was designed by Grossman & Keith Engineering of Oklahoma City and constructed by Duit Construction/TTK Construction Co.
