Arkoma woman hurt in highway accident

An Arkoma woman was in good condition Monday after being injured Saturday in an accident in Sequoyah County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Willie Jean Williams, 72, was driving east when she was passed by another vehicle at about 4:35 p.m. on U.S. 40 near mile marker 317. Williams made an unsafe lane change which forced the passing vehicle onto the shoulder, according to the report. When the vehicle honked at her, she overcorrected and departed the road to the right, where she struck a tree.

Williams was wearing her seatbelt, and her airbags deployed. She suffered arm and leg injuries and was transported by ambulance to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that Williams was in good condition.
