Construction help needed for Wagoner County CASA pirate ship

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children Inc., is looking for a volunteer construction crew and a foreman to build their annual Wagoner County “Playhouse Project.” They have chosen a pirate ship as this year's playhouse. This will be the fifth year for the fundraiser which supports volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in Wagoner County.

“We think we have the materials donated but are without a construction group to actually build it,” said Chrissy Barney, case manager for the program. “We have a set of building plans and think it could be built in a weekend if we can find some people with construction experience who will volunteer their time and skills.”

The playhouse will be an 8-by-4 pirate ship. Tickets will go on sale the end of October for the mid-December drawing. CASA volunteer advocates and community members are meeting at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at Pizza Hut to discuss plans for promoting the playhouse and finding sponsors for the project. Anyone interested in helping with any aspect of the project is encouraged to come to the meeting.

Charlotte Swenson, Century 21, Wagoner Properties and Irene Dressel of McGraw Realtors in Coweta have offered to display the playhouse in front of their businesses. The “Playhouse” committee will be looking for additional locations to sell tickets in Wagoner and Coweta. A range of sponsorships levels will be available to allow any business or individual to participate.

CASA volunteers research the circumstances surrounding cases of abused and/or neglected children who have entered the juvenile court system through no fault of their own. The volunteer then makes recommendations to the court through written reports and attending court hearings. Their recommendations reflect the best interest of the child and the goal is to achieve a permanent and safe home for each child.
