A Muskogee man was robbed after he was struck in the head with a hammer Monday while he lay sleeping, said Muskogee police.
Officer Brad Holt said 44-year old Robert E. Bechtol Jr. was attacked at about 8:50 p.m.
“A suspect or suspects gained entry, so this is a burglary case in addition to the assault,” he said. “The suspect or suspects took a cell phone and prescription medications, all worth $1,460.”
Holt said the person or persons then locked Bechtol in a bathroom and fled the scene. Bechtol was able to escape and contact police shortly after 9 p.m.
“He was transported by Muskogee County EMS to Muskogee Regional Medical Center,” Holt said. “He was conscious enough to give a voluntary statement.”
A hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday that Bechtol was treated and released.
