A Wainwright man who walked away from his work release center has been arrested, charged with the escape and could face charges from the arrest.
Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massie said Jerry Chad Pippin was arrested on a complaint of driving under the influence and said the deputy found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle Pippin was driving.
Pippin, 38, was arrested by an Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office deputy last week and charged with one count of escape from a penitentiary.
Court records show Pippin pleaded not guilty to the escape charge.
Pippin has yet to be charged with DUI or possession of drug paraphernalia, but an Oklahoma County Court Clerk spokeswoman said the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office had the probable cause affidavit from the arrest, so those charges could be filed soon.
Area law agencies had been on the lookout for Pippin since he walked away from the Carver Center in late September. A Muskogee County Sheriff’s deputy received a report Pippin was in the Wainwright area, and when investigators looked into it, they discovered Pippin had escaped from Oklahoma City.
Darrin Berry of the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force said in September that Pippin would likely “disappear for a while” after an exhaustive search of Wainwright failed to turn up the escapee.
Pippin’s father, Bill Lee Pippin, died two days after Pippin escaped from his work release center. Berry said they had expected to find Pippin at his father’s funeral.
Pippin returns to court at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 25 for his preliminary hearing, where a judge will decide whether to bind him over for trial on the escape charge.
Pippin was convicted in 2009 of possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture. He had a parole hearing set for May 2013 before walking out of the work release center.
