Fort Gibson National Cemetery will hold a “Moment of Remembrance” memorial service at 3 p.m. today to honor 11 veterans who had no family members present when they were recently interred.
Forrest Kirk, a chaplain at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center, will officiate the service, local veterans service organizations will provide the rifle salute and the Oklahoma Army National Guard will perform the folding and presenting of the burial flag.
The cemetery will accept the burial flag and display it in their Avenue of Flags, which are flown inside the entrance of the cemetery on special days of significance such as Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Veterans Day.
The “Moment of Remembrance” memorial service will take place each month.
