Two area killers on month’s parole hearing docket

— A Muskogee County man and a Cherokee County man, convicted of separate murders, will have parole hearings this month.

James Darnell Lewis III, 38, began serving a life sentence in February 1990 for the 1988 slaying of Theresa Timmons in Muskogee.

Robert J. Grass, 31, began serving a life sentence in August 1999 for the slaying of his sister, Sherrie Daniel Boyd.

Lewis was 14 when he beat Timmons, 50, to death with a sander inside her home. He was certified as an adult and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. Police and prosecutors said in 2003, when Lewis came up for parole for the first time, that Timmons’ murder was one of the most brutal they had seen.

Grass was convicted of the November 1997 death of Boyd, 29, a Hulbert resident. Grass was 16 at the time of his arrest. Cherokee County prosecutors speculated that he killed Boyd after the two argued over Grass’ grades in school. Boyd had been reported missing, and her body was found two days later in a wooded area about 100 yards from her home. A sledgehammer was found near the body.

The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board will meet Oct. 16-19 at the Hillside Community Corrections Center, 3300 N. Martin Luther King Ave., in Oklahoma City.

Video conferencing is used to conduct personal appearance hearings.

A victim or victim representative who wishes to appear at a parole board hearing can notify the Pardon and Parole Board.

Information: Pardon and Parole Board, First National Center, 120 N. Robinson Ave., Suite 900W,  Oklahoma City OK 73102 or call (405) 602-5863.
