Bacone College campus police are investigating the report of two men armed with a gun who allegedly held a student at gunpoint.
Robbie Duncan, Bacone College campus police legal adviser, said a report came to Bacone police of two men with a firearm about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
“As far as we could gather, there was a dispatch to the new dorms at Bacone College about two males with a firearm,” Duncan said. “They sent campus police, and as of right now there’s an ongoing investigation into what happened.”
According to 911 call logs, emergency personnel received a call Monday night about a student who had been assaulted and held at gunpoint by two black men.
The student, Duncan said, was not seriously injured.
Duncan confirmed that call and the report of armed men were related.
“It doesn’t seem to be any type of random violence or anything like that,” Duncan said. “It looks like a continuation of something else. A continuation of a ongoing problem between a group of people.”
Duncan said the report originated at the new dorms at Bacone, a group of three buildings at 2299 Old Bacone Road. The 911 call logs state the call came from the C dorm, the building just north of the basketball courts between Old Bacone Road and Faculty Road.
Duncan said city police and a sheriff’s deputy responded to the report Monday, as well. A notice on the Bacone College website posted Tuesday morning stated police had received a report Monday night of an “unidentified male with a firearm at the new dorms,” but said there is no continuing threat to the campus community.
“I know parents get nervous, but there’s nothing going on like a person wandering around campus with guns just randomly causing problems,” Duncan said.
