Charges filed in alleged ambush

Victim says man, woman covered doors of his home

— District 27 prosecutors filed charges Friday against two people alleged to have shot at a Cherokee County man.

Margaret Winsett was charged in Cherokee County District Court with shooting from a vehicle with intent to kill, and Chad Winsett was charged with discharging a firearm into a dwelling.

The two allegedly attempted to shoot Charles Gadberry at 8948 Oklahoma 10 in northern Cherokee County.

Margaret Winsett, 53, was arrested Aug. 9 in the case. She posted $20,000 bond Friday after she was charged.

Assistant District Attorney Doug Dry said Chad Winsett, 22, had not been arrested as of Friday. A warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Deputies responded to a shooting call Aug. 8 at Gadberry’s house. He claimed that he opened a door and Margaret Winsett fired a shotgun at him from a parked vehicle.

Gadberry told deputies that he tried to run out the back door of his house but was met by Chad Winsett, who fired several shots at him.

Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault said an empty Glock brand pistol  magazine and a 9 mm shell casing were collected from Gadberry’s house.

Court records state Margaret Winsett will have her initial court appearance at 1 p.m. Sept. 4.
