Don Nichols of Wood Nichols Construction works Monday on an extension to the Castle of Muskogee gates on U.S. 69. Nichols said he and four employees began work on the gate Feb. 1 and are scheduled to finish by April 15. The extensions, which are 40 feet tall, are the first part of the construction. When the extensions are finished, Nichols will begin work on 270 feet of fencing that will mark the castle’s boundaries north on U.S. 69. Nichols said the long-term plan is to make the gate an entrance to the Castle from U.S. 69. “It would be like driving through time,” he said. “You would drive through different eras of history up to the Renaissance period.”
