Austin Michael Mullins, 26, and Krystal Lynn Lewis, 23, were formally charged Tuesday with cruelty to animals in the shooting and skinning of a puppy.
Joplin, a Jack Russell terrier, was shot numerous times with a .22-cal. pistol, the charges filed by Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore state.
Mullins and Lewis remain jailed at the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility in lieu of $25,000 bond.
Lewis told officials she was unable to keep the dog, but her former girlfriend, Jessica Nichols, said Tuesday that was not true. She said she gave Lewis the puppy two and a half weeks ago and offered to take the puppy back.
“She did not have to do what she did,” Nichols said.
