Marshall Elementary School reading specialist Vicki Coleman is Checotah’s 2009 District Teacher of the Year.
Coleman has been has been in the teaching profession for 31 years. She taught first grade for 17 years at Webbers Falls, then first and second grades at Checotah for 12 years. She is currently the reading specialist for the first and second grades at Marshall Elementary. Coleman is married to Charley Coleman and has two daughters and five grandchildren.
Each school in Checotah votes on its Teacher of the Year. Each school’s Teacher of the Year fills out a resume. The district Teacher of the Year then is chosen by a committee made up of a former Teacher of the Year, a parent of a current student, a Checotah business person, a retired school teacher and a school board member.
