TWIN HILLS — One of his students has made quite an impression on Twin Hills School Principal Bob Pinkston.
Third-grader Kaden Martin told Pinkston on Wednesday that he is donating one-half of the money he earned on his prize pig at the Muskogee Regional Junior Livestock Show to the school, which had a building destroyed by fire Feb. 27.
“That’s just something that sort of chills you all the way through — to think a third grader would think of that,” Pinkston said.
Kaden’s pig, a crossbreed, placed first in class at the Muskogee show and drew a $600 bid from D&S; Cabinets in the premium auction.
Kaden intends to give $300 of that to his school.
His father, Darren Martin, said it was Kaden’s own idea, one that was not prompted by suggestion.
“Go find how many kids would do that these days,” Darren Martin said. “They would rather go buy a video game or something.”
Kaden Martin thinks it’s just the think to do — to help the school.
“My school burned,” Kaden said. “They lost all the baseball equipment, desks, paper and pencils — all the stuff burned.”
This is Kaden’s second year at Twin Hills, he attended kindergarten and first grade at Liberty-Morris, which has since closed.
He said he likes Twin Hills School.
“All the kids are nice there and you get to play basketball,” he said. “My principal is nice.”
Pinkston described Kaden as being a “wonderful little boy. He is a very caring boy.”
He said he wants to use Kaden’s contribution for something very special at the school.
“We’ve got to come up with something that that is special because this is a special contribution by a special little boy,” he said.
Whatever the money is used for, it should be something that when people see it, they will always be reminded of Kaden.
In addition to the bid he got at the Muskogee show, Kaden also had a pig in the auction at the county show and got another $600 from that sale.
He plans to take that and the excess from the regional show and put it into savings for the future, he said.
Darren Martin said Kaden puts a lot of time and effort into his hog project — he showed four head this spring and made it to a number of jackpot shows in addition to the area shows. Martin said a lot of people have helped his son be successful in the project, including the Haskell vo-ag teacher and the breeders of his animals, Richard Cunningham and Heath Wells.
