A traffic accident at 8 a.m. Monday on Oklahoma 82 at Stone Chapel Road in Cherokee County resulted in three people being admitted to area hospitals.
Nancy Fields, 46, of Park Hill was taken to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, where she was listed in serious condition Monday night. Nick Fields, 14, of Park Hill and Carrie Caforia, 30, of Tahlequah were taken to Tahlequah City Hospital, where they were treated in the emergency room and released. Nate Fields, 7, of Park Hill was taken to Tahlequah City Hospital and then flown to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where he was listed as stable and improving Monday evening, a spokeswoman said.
Fields was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon eastbound on Stone Chapel Road when she failed to yield from a stop sign and was struck by a 1991 Chevrolet pickup driven by Andrew J. Mathis, 31, of Tahlequah. Everyone was wearing a seat belt except Caforia, who was a passenger in Mathis’ vehicle. An airbag was equipped and deployed in Fields’ vehicle, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
