Muskogee County Emergency Management Director Eugene Blankenship has resigned that position, effective Nov. 21.
Blankenship, who recently unsuccessfully campaigned for the state Representative District 14 seat, said he has accepted a position at Muskogee Regional Medical Center as safety officer.
The position is a new one, created to deal with new federal regulations on disaster preparedness, Blankenship said.
The county’s emergency management director’s job pays $36,840 per year, according to county records.
Gene Wallace, District 1 county commissioner, said the vacancy will not be filled immediately.
Blankenship has been with the county since April 2003.
