Members of the Morning Optimist Club are gearing up for a day of fishing fun for area youngsters.
Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, children in kindergarten through the sixth grade will have the opportunity to fish at no cost.
“Last year, we ran out of fishing poles,” said Charles Bowman. “We ran out of worms. It was great.”
Approximately 180 kids turned out for last year’s event, he said.
Worms will be provided, fishing poles may be checked out to youth participants and refreshments will be served.
The Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation personnel stock the pond before the event. They also hand out poles and teach children who need help how to cast.
“Prizes will be given for each grade,” Bowman said.
Fish will be measured to determine the winners. First place winners will receive fishing poles. Second place winners will receive tackle boxes, and third place winners will get flashlights.
