Local delegate enjoying the Democractic National Convention

Area delegates to the Democratic National Convention will meet this afternoon with Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., when she is expected to release them to vote for Barack Obama tonight.

Isabel Baker of Tahlequah, Ross Staggs and Eddie Sacks of Muskogee are pledged to support Clinton at the convention. So is Joyce Rock of Muskogee, an alternate delegate. If Clinton releases their pledge, they can vote however they wish at the convention.

Rock said the meeting with Clinton is set for 1:15 p.m.

“I absolutely love Hillary,” Rock said.

She thinks Obama made a good choice in selecting Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Delaware, as his running mate.

“He’ll tell them how the cow ate the cabbage, and that will be good,” she said.

Attending the DNC has been the “most exciting thing I’ve ever done,” Rock said.

“The energy at the Pepsi Center — and all the speakers,” she said.

Michelle Obama was very impressive Monday night, she said, comparing her to how she thinks Republican nominee John McCain’s wife will do in representing her husband on the campaign circuit.

“I thought Cindy McCain is toast,” Rock said.

Monday night’s convention also included an appearance by Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.

“Kennedy made me cry,” Rock said. “What a lion in the Democratic party. He is so tough, and to think this may be his last convention and I got to see him there. It just sent shivers down my spine.”
