The local branch of the NAACP will meet in regular session on Saturday at the Martin Luther King Center, 627 N. Third St. The executive session will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the general session which will begin at noon.
At 2 p.m., the Descendants of Freedmen Association will host its meeting at the Martin Luther King Center. An update on the recent appeals court ruling on the Vann federal lawsuit will be presented.
Genealogy tips will be given by organization Vice President Ron Graham. An official from the Muskogee NAACP also will address meeting attendees.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share with others.
Following the Descendants meeting, the Freedmen Band of Cherokee Nation will meet. The meeting is free and open to the public. The meeting will include discussion about upcoming events in Washington, D.C., pertaining to the freedmen.
