A judge sentenced a Muskogee man to life in prison Wednesday, following a jury’s recommendation from earlier this month.
Alfred Grant Fennell, 48, was convicted of killing his nephew, Bryant K. Allen, 40, in August 2005. District Judge Thomas Alford also handed Fennell a 17-year sentence for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Fennell’s attorney said the case will be appealed because he doesn’t think jurors were allowed to hear testimony that might have convinced them the fatal shooting was in self-defense.
