A Midwest City man remained hospitalized Tuesday after being injured in a boating accident Sunday on Kerr Lake in Sequoyah County.
A spokeswoman for Hillcrest’s Alexander Burn Center in Tulsa said Schelby Morris, 63, was in critical condition.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that Morris was a passenger in a 2004 24-foot Lighting vessel operated by Monroe Colston, 34, of Blanchard. Colston had given Morris and another person a ride. He told the Oklahoma Highway Patrol he had gone about one-fourth mile from the shore line and noticed the vessel had a fuel leak.
Colston was attempting to get to shore when the vessel caught fire and burned to the water line, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday at the Apple Gate Cove Recreation Area on Kerr Lake.
Both the passengers were wearing life vests, but the driver was not, the OHP report said.
