Mayor John Tyler Hammons said Thursday he plans to sign a contract with Foundry Literacy Media for a book.
The company will send a representative to help Hammons get down in writing the principles that he lives by — probably a chapter on each, Hammons said.
The book will be 10 chapters in all.
The publisher told Hammons that he might make some money from the deal, but that is not his reason for doing the book.
“Hopefully, somebody will read it and be inspired,” Hammons said. “If I help someone in the process, it’s a good deal.”
Meanwhile, Hammons said he’s going to be studying for an appearance on the nationally televised quiz show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.” He said he expects that segment to be taped in late July.
“I need to have a meeting with all interested fifth-grade teachers to help me study,” Hammons said.
Teachers who want to help him prepare may call Hammons at 684-6200, he said.
Hammons also has agreed to be on the Dr. Phil Show in late July or mid-August and has a request for an appearance from the “Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
In addition to his media appearances, Hammons intends to attend the state mayoral conference, the Republican National Convention and other meetings over the next several weeks, he said.
