The Hemmings Challenge Vintage Car Rally will bring classic cars to Muskogee on Thursday. With its headquarters in Rogers, Ark., the race will feature classic cars and will follow five different “cloverleaf” courses during the event. Muskogee will provide a lunch stop for the race at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Muskogee Civic Center.
The Muskogee Chamber of Commerce & Tourism is encouraging local citizens to join them at the Muskogee Civic Center to greet the racers as they arrive. Local non-profit organizations will be selling lunch, ice cold watermelon, lemonade, snow cones and more.
Muskogee will compete against Van Buren, Ark.; Joplin, Mo.; Claremore; and Eureka Springs, Ark. for a $5,000 prize.
Treasure Ruttman, tourism director, hopes to see a great turnout for the event since spectator participation is one of the criteria in the city competition. She asks attendees to “wear your Hawaiian shirt and shades and spend your lunch hour enjoying these great classic cars.”
