Ex-Eufaula teacher charged with rape of student

A former Eufaula teacher has been charged in McIntosh County District Court with second-degree rape of a minor.

Stephanie Layman is accused in connection with sexual relations with one of her former male students.

Under state law, sex between a school employee and a student younger than 20 is considered rape, even if the act is consensual.

No one returned calls to Layman’s home Thursday.

Layman last taught at Eufaula Public Schools in 2006-07, according to records with the State Department of Education.

Eufaula school administrators are at a professional meeting this week. Superintendent Dan Edwards and other administrators won’t be back at school until Monday and could not be reached for comment, a secretary at the school said.

No arrest warrant has been issued for Layman, who has agreed through her attorney to surrender Wednesday, a court official said.

Layman’s attorney, Mike Sherrod of Norman, had a death in the family and won’t be available until Monday, a man answering his office phone said Thursday.
