The Flint Ridge Propery Owners' Association has joined the list of property owners on the Illinois River who are participating in riparian easement programs promoted by the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission.
Flint Ridge recently commited acreage to the program, which sets aside lands from potential grazing or timber harvests so that buffer zones of vegetation can grow unchecked and act as filters for nutrients during periods of heavy rains and runoff.
Flint Ridge received $80,686.70 in exchange for setting aside acreage in the Sycamore Park area of the subdivision, which totals more than 7,000 acres in Delaware and Adair Counties.
The easement was negotiated with the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission and the was funded with money given to OSRC by the poultry industry.
