Marge Burton of Hulbert was awarded the Indian Health Service 2006-2007 National Director's Award at a ceremony in Bethesda, Md., on Thursday. Burton is manager of health privacy and compliance with the Cherokee Nation.
The IHS National Director's Award recognizes individuals whose special efforts and contributions, have resulted in significant benefits to the programs of the IHS and fulfillment of the IHS mission. The award recognizes exceptional initiative or leadership.
Burton is a National Merit Scholar, a Phi Beta Kappa and holds a master’s degree in health administration. She has been employed by the Cherokee Nation since 1996.
She lives in Hulbert with her husband Jim, who is employed by Talking Leaves Job Corps.
