WAGONER — An undocumented alien was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.
Authorities said Michael Hernandez kicked the child to death. Preliminary reports show the toddler had broken ribs on both his right and left rib cage and collapsed lungs.
The child’s mother told police she had left Kelynn Byrd with Hernandez on Aug. 12 while she went to another apartment. When she returned, she found her son “in distress” and called police.
The boy was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where he was pronounced dead.
