Dr. Troy E. Stoutermire took the oath of office Tuesday afternoon as the new city councilor for Ward IV.
He was appointed to serve the remainder of the term for the seat held by J.R. Johnson until his recent resignation from the council. The term expires next year.
Stoutermire has lived in Muskogee since 1993 and works as a drug and alcohol counselor for youths who attend the court-ordered portion of the Oklahoma National Guard’s Thunderbird Youth Academy at Pryor.
Stoutermire said he is pleased to have the opportunity to serve Muskogee.
“This is not my first time being a community servant,” he said. “I love serving my community. I believe as we grow and mature in life, we need to do what we can and give back and do what we can for our community.”
