TAHLEQUAH — Charges are expected to be filed against a registered sex offender who authorities said was seen masturbating outside a local church on Sunday.
Prosecutors said Wesley Dale Vaughan, 47, was released from prison in June after being convicted of indecent exposure. Assistant District Attorney David Pierce said he plans to file lewd molestation and indecent exposure charges.
“He was seen at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church by a woman and her son as they were leaving church,” Pierce said. “He was just standing there masturbating.”
Pierce said witnesses chased down and tackled Vaughan and held him until police arrived to arrest him.
Court records show Vaughan was charged twice with indecent exposure in 2002. He was given a suspended sentence but was sent to prison later for a probation violation.
Pierce said charges will be filed by next week.
