A Fort Gibson man pleaded guilty in Muskogee County District Court for failing to register as a sex offender.
Jared Matthews, 21, was handed a five-year suspended sentence Tuesday, which will run concurrently with a previous convictions as a youthful offender for lewd molestation and sodomy.
Matthews was serving two five-year suspended sentences for those convictions when he was charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
That charge was filed after authorities learned the man lived within 2,000 feet from a school, which prompted prosecutors to file a civil suit to force him out of the house. Matthews later moved out of that home and into the home of a woman who had minor children but failed to register at the new address.
