Missing woman raises fears in family

Her police record spurs rumors of murder

— Kimberly Patton hasn’t heard from her sister in a week, and she and other family members are worried.

Patton said she hasn’t heard from her sister, Tenesha Nunley, since Sept. 11.

“We’re just hoping she’s OK,” Patton said. “We’re worried; this is just not like her at all. She calls for the simplest things, just to tell us what she’s cooking, stuff like that.

“To not hear from her for this long worries us.”

Muskogee Police Lt. Bobby Lee said a missing-person report on Nunley was filed Monday.

Nunley, 26, has had recent run-ins with the police.

She was arrested Sept. 11 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Nunley also was questioned as a person of interest in a recent shooting but was quickly cleared by police.

Lee said family members filed the report after rumors began circulating that Nunley had been killed.

“We’ve heard those rumors,” he said. “That’s exactly what the missing-person report says, that they’ve heard rumors she’s been killed.”

Patton said Nunley is a “good, but naive” person, who gets continually caught up with the wrong people.

Nunley is serving a 10-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty in 2010 to being an accessory to felony for harboring two men involved in the fatal Arrowhead Mall shooting.

“We try to tell her to be more careful, because she has these people she thinks are her friends, and they don’t care about her,” Patton said. “I’ve told her the only ones really there for her is her family.”

Lee said Nunley’s two children are with family members.

Patton said it’s possible that Nunley left town to avoid trouble, but she’d like to know for sure.

“If she reads this or someone who knows where she is reads this, please call us,” she said. “We don’t have to know where she is, we just want to know she’s OK.”
