Hilldale High School’s homecoming celebration was filled with pomp and circumstance — and more than a little silliness from time to time.
From a rowdy audience to funny one-liners, this year’s traditional coronation and pep rally had a few surprises.
Queen Taylor Thomas wore a pristine white dress and glittery crown after her coronation ceremony as she cheered on her class in a hot wing eating contest that got more than a little silly.
Taylor was surprised by the announcement a couple of weeks ago that the football players had voted queen.
“I was sitting in Chemistry class and I was just so surprised,” Taylor said. “My friends all hugged me and said congratulations.”
Taylor has been a cheerleader since the third grade — and she’s the only senior cheerleader on the squad this year.
Taylor’s bio said she’d like to go into law, get married, live on a farm and have three kids.
“We’re very excited for her,” said Taylor’s mom Kim, an elementary teacher at Hilldale. “We think she’s very deserving of course.”
Taylor’s father Myles Thomas said he and Kim are very proud at how Taylor’s turned out.
“She’s so responsible, polite and friendly,” said Myles Thomas, a Muskogee High School teacher. “We feel like she has really grown up to be a super, wonderful teenager.”
