Death under investigation

Body found in apartment had bullet wound

— Police are investigating a death they’ve deemed suspicious in the 1500 block of South Fifth Street.

Police Lt. Bobby Lee said Cory Sylvester Logan, 27, was found dead in an apartment in Green Country Village.

“At about 11:15 a.m., patrol responded to assist (Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service),” Lee said. “The victim, Mr. Logan, was pronounced deceased.”

Emergency dispatch call logs state Logan had a bullet wound to his head. District Attorney’s Office Investigator Richard Slader said he had been told Logan possibly suffered from seizures. He said first responders initially believed that Logan’s head wound was caused when he struck something during a fall.

Police were called when blood was discovered inside the apartment. People at the hospital discovered the bullet wound, Slader said.

The apartment where Logan’s body was found is adjacent to the apartment manager’s office. Neighbors said Logan was visiting a woman at that apartment and that he often stayed there.

Police have watched footage caught by a security camera in the manager’s office building, and they don’t believe anyone entered the apartment while Logan was there alone. The apartment’s tenant left before 6 a.m. Wednesday and found the body when she returned at 11:15 a.m.

Neighbors said Logan was very soft-spoken but would often give older residents rides to the grocery store or to run errands.

“We’ll treat it as a suspicious death unless we discover otherwise,” Lee said.

He said he expected that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will decide soon whether Logan’s death was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was a homicide.
