Trash poster contest open to students

Children in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to take part in the annual statewide Trash Poster Contest.

The contest is organized by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma State Department of Education, Oklahoma Highway Safety Office and Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.

Oklahoma students from public, private, tribal, charter, parochial or home school are eligible. The contest is divided into four divisions by grade: K-second, third-fifth, sixth-eighth and ninth-12th. Deadline for entries is Jan. 31.

First-, second- and third-place county winners will receive a certificate. At an awards luncheon in April at ODOT headquarters, each of the 12 state winners will receive a cash award — $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place in each grade category. Teachers of the state winners will receive vouchers for a two-night stay at a state park and checks for classroom art supplies ranging from $50 to $100.

Information: (405) 521-4037.
