TAHLEQUAH – A Tahlequah man has been charged in Cherokee County District Court on allegations that he stole a truck, fled from police, and later tried to bribe an officer.
Justin James Walker, 27, is named in five felony charges, including larceny of an automobile, possession of firearms after conviction or during probation, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, eluding or attempting to elude police, and bribing an officer.
Prosecutors allege Walker stole a 1989 Chevrolet truck from Chris Orr on Aug. 25.
When officers spotted the truck and attempted to stop it, Walker reportedly sped away but crashed into two other vehicles a short distance from where the pursuit began.
Walker attempted to run from police after the truck crashed, but officers were able to catch him.
Prosecutors said Walker offered $100 to Tahlequah Patrol Officer Cody Warren to let him go.
Walker also is accused of having a Mossberg shotgun and methamphetamine in his possession during the incident.
He is held on a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for at 1 p.m. Oct. 16.
All five felony charges carry sentences of up to life in prison, according to court documents filed with the charges.
