OSB group visits legislators in OKC

— Oklahoma School for the Blind FCCLA (Family Career, Community and Leaders of America) recently traveled to Oklahoma City to attend Family And Consumer Sciences Day at the Capitol.

The group consisted of Joshua Reid, Riley Fly, Charity Pickup, Sara Graber, Alison Garner and Ronnie Darden.

Their first stop was the Regional Food Bank in Oklahoma City, where they sorted and labeled packaging. The group learned that the Regional Food Bank distributes food to surrounding food pantries, churches and schools. In addition, FCCLA members toured the food bank and saw just how vast the organization is and why volunteers are so important.

The following day, FCCLA members and sponsors met with legislators from their region discussing the importance of FACS programs in schools. Students expressed the personal significance of OSB to each legislator visited. The group met with Sen. Earl Garrison, D-Muskogee; and Reps. Ann Coody, R-Lawton; Arthur Hulbert, R-Fort Gibson; and Jason Murphey, R-Guthrie.

Hulbert introduced the students and sponsors while the Legislature was in session.
